2018 Italian Film Festival – Boys Cry Review

By Tony Polese · On September 12, 2018

Boys Cry is the Italian story of two best friends living in Rome, in poor conditions, struggling to live and provide for their families. With a dream and hope of a better life one day and an escape from the sadness that surrounds them, an unexpected event occurs one night which changes both their lives forever…
They become forced to make moral decisions which will determine their fates.. but at what cost?
How far would you go to gain money, women and a ‘better life’ for you and your family if it ended up affecting your friendship, your family and your conscience?…
The two friends, Mirko and Manolo end up falling into a trap where there they will fail to realise the consequences of their choices, and end up spiraling downwards into the Mafia underworld.
At times this movie can be slow paced, but at a European art house standard, depicting real life scenarios of the dark corruption of gangs and unfortunate families involved and tangled in between, which may be confronting and distressing for some viewers, so please be advised.
To say I enjoyed this movie would be difficult, as it was quite disturbing, but I respect it for it’s raw realism and depiction of life and all the struggles that come with making the wrong decisions, which was not left uncut.
