2017 Year In Review

By Tony Polese · On December 30, 2017

Year in Review by Geoff Jenke

Another year gone and what a year it was in music and live shows. Time to reflect what made the top spot on my Best of lists. Love them or hate them, you always find yourself reading these lists and disagreeing with them. That is the wonder of music and film. If we all enjoyed the same types it would in deed be a boring world. Don’t agree, let us know what your best albums and shows were for 2017 in the comments below. As you will probably guess, Eventalaide took me on because of my love of old school rock. That is not to say I don’t listen to new stuff as well.

Concert EVENT of the Year

The Stems, The Garden Path & The Trafalgar’s (The Gov) Three great bands putting in three great shows. Must admit I was blown away by The Garden Path who I didn’t know before this evening. The Stems were ably assisted by Ash Naylor and Mr Rock ‘n’ Roll himself Davey Lane. The Trafalgar’s are a S.A. hidden gem. A 10/10 show.

Close runner up –Fistful of Rock with Adel, Jedediah, You Am I and Hoodoo Guru’s (Thebarton Theatre)

Individual Live Shows of the Year.

  1. Even (Corner Hotel Melbourne)
  2. The Tea Party (Thebarton Theatre)
  3. Dan Baird & Homemade Sin (The Gov)
  4. Explosions in the Sky (The Gov)
  5. Died Pretty (The Gov)

Albums of the Year

  1. Is This the Life We Really Want – Roger Waters
  2. Damage & Joy – The Jesus and Mary Chain
  3. Infinite – Deep Purple
  4. Carry Fire – Robert Plant
  5. Gutful – Bad//Dreems

Movies of the Year

  1. Dunkirk
  2. Logan
  3. Wind River
  4. IT
  5. Thor: Ragnarok

Best Theatre/Stage Show

Book of Mormon

Hopefully What Will 2018 Bring?

  1. New Even album and tour. It’s only been promised for 3 years.
  2. Ian Hunter to tour Australia. The rumours are getting stronger.
  3. Adelaide to get more major (and local) acts.
  4. Eventalaide to go from strength to strength.
  5. New Rolling Stones album. Hotly rumoured….
