All Time Low Album Review – Last Young Renegade

By Christie Thompson · On September 15, 2017

Earlier this year we were lucky enough to see USA band All Time Low at the Thebarton theatre as they were touring to celebrate the release of their latest album, Last Young Renegade. Fast-forward a few months and we’ve got a copy of the new album in our hands and playing on repeat.

All Time Low made a name for themselves in the early 2000’s as poster boys of the pop-punk era with popular tracks like Dear Maria, Count Me In and Lost in Stereo. Since getting together in 2003, the band has released seven studio albums and their tour earlier this year marked their eighth time in Australia.

So what can you expect from the new album?

The band have evidently made a gradual shift away from their emo heartthrob days, as the new album features more pop influences than their older work. You can still expect some high notes from Alex Gaskarth, with thankfully not too much auto tune filtering out the slight rough edges on his voice.

Tracks such as Life of the Party and Dirty Laundry feature a lot more synth and pop influence than the bands older music, however there are still tracks with the old pop-punk style like Last Young Renegade for the older fans. However, this is not to say that the shift in the bands music style is a bad thing. Music changes and styles evolve with each new generation. All Time Low have successfully managed to evolve with the times and produce music for a newer generation to love, and while you may not listen to this band while hyping yourself up for a metal show anymore, you’ll definitely have them blasting through your speakers at your next house party!
