Remi review: Adelaide Festival – Riverbank Palais , 18th March 2017

By Tony Polese · On March 21, 2017

On a perfect warm autumn night, I made my way to the stunning Riverbank Palais venue which is part of the Adelaide Festival to see 2013 Triple J unearthed winner, and up and coming Aussie hip hop and soul artist, Remi.

The last time I saw Remi play was the 2016 Groovin the Moo Festival.  He also played Southbound Festival in 2016.

Remi took to the stage with Sensible J on drums.

The crowd were a little hesitant to be close to the stage to begin with, but with advise from Remi, the crowd all moved in and it wasn’t  long before he had the majority of the dancing to his infectious and energetic hip hop beats.

Remi commanded the stage strongly and had the punters thoroughly enjoying their Kickstarter to their Saturday night.  Songs from his Raw X nfinity and Divas and Demons albums were played.

What I did find amusing was how often Remi mentioned the Fringe Festival even though this performance was part of the Adelaide Festival.  Remi also mentioned he loved admiring the stunning city views that were behind him.

The only negative of the night was the sparse crowd and this may have been caused by festival season competiton (Royal Croquet Club, nearby, Adelaide Fringe), and perhaps punters watching their wallet with the gig being on the final weekend of festival season.

But in saying that, Remi definitely delivered on this night, and with a larger crowd, it would have made for a perfect atmosphere in such a stunning venue on the Torrens River.

Next stops for Remi is Remi on the Hill @ The Hill, and Bluesfest over Easter.
