Maho Magic Bar at The Garden Review

By Pearl Tassell · On March 7, 2026

Maho Magic Bar is a show you can come back to every year.

Magic literally happening in front of your eyes.

An intimate up close and personal show exhibiting the world’s leading Japanese magicians. This show is unique in that instead of sitting in the audience watching the performers the performers come to you.

Stunning and cutely charismatic Japanese magicians cycle around to different stations sharing their unique, quirky and cheeky clever magic tricks into dispersed with big events led by Diana from New Orleans Orleans who brings the crowd together in a dance party cross magician extravaganza.

The event is truly personalised. As you get to know each of the magicians, their names and their particular quirks, it feels like a night out in Tokyo more than a fringe show. There are plenty of extra options to choose from from menus including not only a drinks menu, not only a merch menu but also a special magic trick menu so if you feel like spoiling your company there’s a special trick  just for them. Just be mindful these are additional extras.

Part fringe theatre and part bar, the venue is beautiful and takes you back to Japan from the beautiful paper lanterns to the hanging cherry blossoms outshone by the nightlife of Tokyo.

The host is beautiful charismatic and amazing, and articulately and flawlessly introduces the magicians as you take your seat around one of the beautiful bars. There’s something special about being that up close and personal with a performer. You feel connected and you get to share that special magic moment with those around the table also attending the show.

Being able to experience these things together makes them more memorable because you can see their reactions not only on your friend’s face but also on the faces of those sharing the table with you.

If you can I would recommend a first row seats because then you get the best views and the most interaction but second row seat is just as good. This show is probably a little underrated just because it does have that point of difference in being so up close. There’s many magic shows as part of the fringe festival. But card tricks and slide of hand in particular can be difficult to translate to large audiences. Being in small groups in this close makes the magic seem even more impressive.

If you’re a magic lover or just someone that likes to up close personal and involved than this show is for you.
