Having only been introduced to The Beards earlier this year and having seen their performance at Houghtonfest in February, I was hooked on this band, with their music and their songs all dedicated to beard appreciation (and rightly so)!
The Beards is a 4-man ensemble who began their incredible journey of composing and performing in the music industry 11 years ago right here in Adelaide. And what a fun-filled 11 years it has been! The Beards have gone off being a hit – not only in their hometown of Adelaide, but taking their catchy tunes to nationwide and international levels.
Upon getting to the Gov shortly after 8pm, the beer garden, the bar, and the mosh pit were filled with people who were strutting some of the most glorious beards I’ve ever seen. It’s not often where you come across a band who dedicates their career to one specific feature of humans – beards. I say humans because The Beards embrace people of all genders to strut their facial hair with pride. Not sure what I’m talking about? Perhaps this will help.
And what was even more pleasing was to see not just the men but also the women getting into the spirit, donning some beautiful faux beards that would make any man jealous with envy.
There had been a lot of hype surrounding their final ever, sold out concert, and when The Beards took the stage one final time, they were showered with love (so much love) and appreciation. Starstruck fans had the amazing opportunity to be treated to a packed venue with beard lovers from across the State.
The band performed their beloved hits such as “No Beard, No Good”, “Got Me A Beard”, “The Beard Accessory Store”, and of course, one of my personal favourites – “You Should Consider Having Sex With A Bearded Man”. As you can see, this band unknowingly started a new religion (if you will),
The Beards has always been known for their showmanship, and they continued with the tradition of unfailingly interacting with the crowd close to and far away from the stage. As part of their final concert, several lucky concertgoers were presented with props and accessories from the famous Keytar, as well as 2x signed posters of the boys.
Since announcing that 2016 would be their final year of producing songs dedicated to beard appreciation, The Beards have been on an adventure since the start of the year, by undertaking a massive Farewell Tour on a national and an international level.
By performing 2 heavy sets full of pro-beard anthems and uniting a room with their impressive 5-album music playlists, the music by The Beards brilliantly combined acoustics with pop with rock. I was even fortunate enough to stroke those furry faces right towards the end of the concert, so you could say that I was able to be a part of one of the most emotional yet energetic send-offs to a real Adelaide treasure.
Starting off with Triple J, The Beards have catapulted their success and they will be remembered for a very long time. While we know that this may be the last time The Beards perform together as a band, here’s hoping that the band will re-band together in a couple of years after taking some much-well-deserved rest and surprise us with more beardy-rrific hits coupled with their infectious lovable personalities and talents.
