Hairspray Review – Adelaide Entertainment Centre

By Tony Polese · On October 18, 2016

The world’s largest production of “Hairspray” with over 600 local kids involved in the Big Arena extravaganza at the Entertainment Centre was just amazing.

Flashback to 1962 and unpopular Baltimore teen, Tracy Turnblad [Lauren McKenna] dances her way onto the “Corny Collins Show” played by Tim Campbell.  She creates a social revolution with her newfound fame and also manages to sing and dance her way into the arms of teen heartthrob Link Larkin [Dan Venz].  Fantastic choreography, by Callum Mansfield, with the 650 + dancers all managing to stay in sync whilst the all star cast including Simon Burke, Christine Anu and Wayne Scott Kermond belting out the toe tapping tunes makes for a highly enjoyable night out.
Audiences over 4000 were in attendance which just added to the uplifting atmosphere with some getting carried away with good natured heckling of the characters.  It left us all wanting more and we would have been happy to stay for another 2 hours of feel good “hair raising” entertainment.
