When front man for legendary Australian band, Jedediah, went solo, he released the music under the name Bob Evans. His first solo album, Suburban Songbook, was released in 2006 and in April 2021 Bob released his latest album, Tomorrowland with an Australian tour planned in support of it. Of course, things this year didn’t go to plan and his Adelaide gig, originally slated for June finally happened in December.

I am a songwriter who plays guitar and sings and attempts to entertain.

What was the first record you bought with your own money and where from?
Ratcat “Tingles” EP from Bull Creek Compact City, which was an independent music shop in my local suburban shopping centre when I was a kid.
60’s or 70’s Music:
I’m going to lean towards the 60’s only because my discovery of music by The Beatles had a profound effect on me although these days, I’m more inclined to listen to music from the 70’s as I’m still discovering a lot of interesting stuff from that decade today that I’d previously missed.
What music are you currently listening to?

None. I love them too much because they came from the artist. It wouldn’t be the same if I’d written them.
Roger Daltry once said “Rock N Roll has no future”. Do you agree with him?
No and he has been proven wrong, hasn’t he? Rock and roll still exists, it’s just changed and evolved.
Vinyl, CD or Streaming?
I love vinyl but I also listen to a lot of music through streaming services because it’s convenient. I no longer own a CD player.
If you could record or play live with any artist (dead or alive), who would it be?
John Lennon
What is the most useless talent you have?
I can fall asleep anywhere.

My last album.

Bob’s gig at the Grace Emily Adelaide on Thursday 9th December was a joyous affair for both artist and audience. Bob was just glad to be out playing live again and we punters, glad to be getting the chance to watch musicians from interstate again.
Bob played a lot of songs, starting with Always You and the brilliant Concrete Heart. He then worked his way through songs from all his albums, although all the while promoting his latest release Tomorrowland. And fair enough too as it is a great album. He told stories about songs “This is my Adelaide song” … “this is my Perth song” … etc, stories about reviews he has had and just life in general. The crowd lapped it all up.
Bob played solo with nothing to hide behind except his guitar and harmonica but the sound was full and at times I was looking for a second guitarist on stage. He finished with an inspiring version of Born Yesterday, walking off stage to rousing cheers. This was my first Bob Evans live experience. It won’t be my last.
