Fringe Review: Adam Page SOLO

By Tony Polese · On February 27, 2020

Act:                             Solo
Performer:                 Adam Page
Venue:                        The Wheaty Tin Shed at thee Wheatsheaf Hotel, Thebarton
Date:                           Tuesday, 24th February 2020
Time:                          7pm

A sizeable and very appreciative crowd at the Wheatsheaf was treated to an exceptionally enjoyable show by the multi-instrumentalist jazz musician, Adam Page.  Of his three shows at this year’s Fringe, the aptly titled “Solo” was an absolute tour de force of creative music making.  He played bartitone and tenor saxophones, flute, clarinet, a double-headed flute, bass guitar, and synthesizer, and drum machine.  This one-man-band produced a fabulously rich array of multi-layered sounds that crossed many musical boundaries, between rock, jazz, traditional, funk, and much more.

Each performance was laced with humour as Page engaged spontaneously with his audience, at one point inviting a member on stage to ‘jam’ with him on the synthesizer while he overlaid the music with the wind instruments.

The audience was dazzled by his virtuosity across the range of instruments and was captivated by the energy and beauty of the multi-tracked sounds processed by pedals operating electronic ‘looping’ devices.

Page is an exceptional talent, and he is local.  From Thursday 27 to Saturday 29th February at 9pm he presents a separate programme called “4 Saxophones and a Beat Machine”.  These are hot tickets. Grab them while you can. Be prepared to be astonished with this guy’s skills and get into the groove with foot tapping and jiving.

Something for the family … why not consider “For Kids and their Adults” on Saturday 29th February at 2pm
